BSC. Peter Falvey.

Afternoon Members.

It is with sadness that we report the passing of former member Peter Falvey.

Peter Falvey was an active member of the Squash Club in the 1990s and 2000s. He was often seen in the bar having played a hard game of Squash! He and Marie would have a couple of drinks then get an Indian takeaway from Bucks Tandoori in the new town. He was a keen sportsman, road cycling many miles each week.

Peter was keen to help members improve their play. He took a Coaching Qualification. He ran Junior Coaching on Saturday afternoons - Quid-a-kid- for a number of years as well as coaching adults in the evenings. We had a thriving Junior Section, with 2 then 3 teams needing to be ferried to matches. He was always available to drive them and assist them with their competitive play and they excelled in his care. He really did enjoy seeing the players progress.

In 1996 Peter was awarded the Mills Plate for his contribution to the Club.

Those of you who knew Peter will know that he had a stroke when he was 61. He was in hospital, then stroke rehabilitation and was confined to a wheelchair. He persisted with his exercises throughout the ensuing years leading an assisted independent life. At the end of June this year, he suffered a major brain haemorrhage, was taken to hospital, but didn’t regain consciousness. He died on 26th June - a couple of months before his 70th Birthday. He did not want a funeral service.

Thank you to Kay Lubek for putting the above report together. We will keep in touch as we would like to plan an event to honour Peter's memory.

Best Wishes,

Andy
